- General Notes
Momento can make photobooks from:
- Digital photographs on your computer
- Digital photographs on your digital camera
- Digital photographs on CD-ROM (or DVD-ROM)
- Digital photographs on a website (such as Flickr)
- Regular printed photographs
- Slides or negatives
However, in order for the photographs to be used in the Momento software, the photos have to be in digital format and exist on your hard disk. leaving files on CD/DVD will cause problems when reopening books and will slow the software's performance down.
Using Printed Photos, Slides and Negatives
If you want to use a photo that you only have as a printed photograph, slide or negative, it must first be scanned into your computer and saved as a JPEG file. Note that slides and negatives require a special transparency/slide scanner. If you don't have your own scanner, or are not comfortable with the process of scanning photographs, then you can visit our website (www.momento.com.au) to easily locate a professional photo-scanning service in your area.
It is recommended that you do this before starting Momento to create your photobook.
Using Photos Located on a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
Momento will not work efficiently if your photo files are kept on CD-ROM. Before creating a photobook, you should first copy your files into a convenient folder on your computer's hard-disk.
Using Photos Located on your Digital Camera
If the photographs are located on your digital camera, you should copy or move them onto your computer using either the special software that came with your digital camera, or by dragging them from one drive to another (e.g. you G: drive to your C: drive) using Windows Explorer.
It is recommended that you do this before starting Momento to create your photobook.
Using Photos from a Website
If the photos are located on a website on the Internet such as Flickr, you need to download them to a folder on your computer. You do this by browsing to the highest resolution (visibly largest) version of the photograph you can find, then right-clicking on the photo and selecting Save Picture As..., as shown below:

It is recommended that you do this before starting Momento to create your photobook.
Locating Your Photos on Your Computer
Momento uses photos stored on your computer or on a CD/DVD-ROM in your computer's drive. In order to use Momento, you must be able to locate these photos. They will be typically stored in one or more folders on your computer, such as your My Pictures folder or its sub-folders.
Before you run the Momento software, make a note of where you have saved/stored your digital, scanned or downloaded photos. It may be necessary to search for these photos using Windows Explorer.
General Notes
- Ideally, the digital copies of all your photos should have a resolution of at least 2000 x 1500 pixels. Before taking photos with a digital camera, set the digital camera's resolution (or quality) setting to at least 3 Megapixels. If there's a "Standard"/"Fine" setting, use the "Fine" setting. When using a scanner, use a high "DPI" (dots per inch) setting.
- The larger you want the photo to appear on the printed page of your photobook, then higher resolution you should use. If you wish to enlarge a photo to fill the entire page, then use the highest resolution possible
- Before using a scanner, wipe the scanner's glass and each photo with a lint free cloth to remove excess dust
- Images must be saved in JPEG format only. This is the standard file format used by almost every digital camera. When saving a scanned photo, ensure that the JPEG quality setting in your scanning software is set to at least 8 (80 in some programs)
- Digital imaging software, such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, can be used to remove excess dirt or noise, or to adjust the photo's brightness or contrast
