Designing a Photobook using Photojunction Remix
Like Momento's software, Photojunction Remix is a application designed specifically for the creation of album and photobook layouts. The software has now been released for free use and can be downloaded at www.photojunction.com. Note: we don't accept layouts designed in Photojunction Retro.
Read these instructions carefully before starting your book design using Photojunction Remix. We recommend that you print this page for reference.
Important notes:
- Photojunction requires Photoshop CS2 or later to be installed
-
Always design your cover last so that your design suits the calculated spine size
The latest version of Photojunction suggests cover design 1st; please make sure that you revisit your cover design after your pages designs are complete. - Always prepare your photos in Adobe RGB and ensure the profile is embedded
- Always export using Photojunctions "Export via Photoshop" option when exporting your album (see below)
Getting started
- Because Photojunction exports via Photoshop, you should download these Photoshop setup files
-
Extract the contents to a convenient location
-
Move the file "Momento-PDF-Export-Settings.zip" to:
- Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF/Settings
- Windows: C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Documents/Adobe PDF/Settings
-
Load the Colour settings file:
- In Photoshop's Edit menu, select 'Colour Settings…'
- Click "Load" and select the file "Momento-Adobe-Colour-Settings.zip"
- Click OK
-
Move the file "Momento-PDF-Export-Settings.zip" to:
-

There are 3 shaped albums that can be selected in the Album Format list on the Cover tab: Landscape, Portrait and Square.
Note: These will result in a design that suits our largest photobook sizes, but can then be ordered at smaller sizes if desired. - The Cover Material and Cover Style fields on the Cover tab must be set to "Select when ordering via Momento Pro website".

Designing your pages:
-

- The page edges: The light blue guide lines on the outer edges of the canvas indicate where your pages will be cut. Ensure that your image is either well inside the blue line, or all the way to the edge of the canvas. Stopping your image at the blue line risks a slither of white appearing at the page edge.
- The gutter: The red guide line indicates the join of two pages. Ensure that important image content is either well inside the red line (the vertical blue line is a good safe edge), or all the way on to the adjacent page using Photojunction's Panoramic Layout function. Stopping your image at or near the red line risks a small portion of that image appearing on the adjacent page.
Spanning images over two pages:
-
The latest version of Photojunction has changes to the behaviour of spanned images. Do not use the built in panorama feature to span images - always use the standard page layout mode:

- Instead do the following: Place the same photo on both the facing pages then manually crop and position them so that the same part of the image appears on the light blue gutter guide. A correctly spanned image appears like this...

Designing your cover:
Important: We recommend that you use our Photoshop templates to create your cover designs instead of Photojunction's cover design feature. You must provide individual cover designs for each size you plan to order, but Photojunction can only export covers at one size (Grand).
If you only plan to order a Grand sized book, then proceed with the following cover design tips.
We have specified a cover design size that will allow for the design of dust-jackets and printed hardcovers on the same canvas. Use the following instructions according to the cover type you plan to order.
-

- When your images are added to the canvas, the grey area will be visible
- The vertical blue lines indicate the spine area. Make sure you design your cover after the pages so these lines are at their final positions.
- The white area represents the visible area of the cover on a closed book (including enough bleed for trimming or folding)
- The edge of the grey area indicates the approximate locations of the folds.
-
Note: The following two guides don't appear in Photojunction but are shown here as a guide
- The red line indicates the area to use for printed hardcovers.
- The green line indicates the area to use for dust-jackets.
- Note: There is a quirk where your first image on to the cover design will automatically stretch up to fill the canvas, unlike page designs where images go on at a normal size. To rectify this, you need to resize the 1 st image by dragging the bottom-right corner.
Exporting your layouts:
- In Photojunction's 'Album' menu, select "Export > Hi-Res Export "
- Use the Browse button to set the export destination folder
- Select "Momento Pro Australia" in the Lab menu
- Select "Export Entire Album"
- If you have designed a cover, select "Export Cover Image"
- Click Next
-
Set the Export Method as "Use Photoshop"
Note: Not using this settings will result in inaccurate colour - Set the resolution to 300 dpi
- Set the Image file type to JPEG with the quality at 10 or more
- Start the Export
Saving your pages and cover as PDF files:
Important Note: Photojunction always exports pages as pairs with each pair resulting in two files, labeled L & R. The first 'L' page and the last 'R' page will be blank and are not required so delete them before combining your pages into a PDF.
Use Photoshop to combine the exported images to PDF files
- In Photoshop's File menu, select "Automate > PDF presentation"
- Use the Browse button to load all the page files
- Sort the files into the correct order
- Select to save as "Multi-Page Document"
- Click Save and enter the PDF's file name and location
- Use the default "Momento PDF Export Settings" in File Settings.
Check your exported PDF
When viewing the exported file in Acrobat (Pro or Reader), the colours should look correct. If an image's colour doesn't look correct, then go back to the relevant page and ensure that the colour profile is correctly set as Adobe RGB.
